Social Emotional Learning (SEL) is at the core of Lower School Physical Education. The curriculum embraces the five core values of the Lower School,along with the five core competencies of SEL. Through the practice of movement patterns, motor skills, and fitness concepts, girls develop an awareness and acceptance of self and others in a physical setting. Students acquire self-management, critical thinking, collaboration and relationship skills, creativity, and an appreciation for lifelong activity in a positive and challenging learning environment.
LOWER SCHOOL FRIDAY SPORTS
The Friday Sports Programs offers students in classes K-IV a gymnastics program tailored to their age group. The program meets at the end of the regular Friday school day from 2:15-3:00p.m. The gymnastics program is for girls of all abilities; the only requirement is an interest in learning more about the sport. This program is taught by members of the Physical Education Department.
The Brearley School is a K-XII independent day school for girls in New York City. Empowering girls of adventurous intellect to think critically and creatively.
