Giving to Brearley

Supporting Girls of Adventurous Intellect

Brearley is a singular place built upon an abiding respect for girls and their potential as learners, thinkers and leaders. We believe in girls’ education, and together, we will ensure that our students learn and grow in a school that prepares them for principled engagement in the world.

Brearley students and their teachers dig deep, read closely, analyze, collaborate and spur each other forward. Brearley girls develop a remarkable agency and well-founded layer of conviction and trust in themselves and their abilities. The result is a lifelong capacity to surpass limits and to lead lives that contribute to the greater good.

To steward this rare and precious place where we celebrate and cultivate the power of girls' intellect is an opportunity like none other. Together, we will ensure that Brearley persists and progresses. We welcome your participation and invite gifts to general operating funds or directed to specific purposes, as outlined below.

Annual Funds

Brearley Fund Unrestricted

Fueling all aspects of the educational program, your gifts will have a direct and immediate impact on purposeful teaching and expansive learning for today’s Brearley girls.

Unrestricted gifts allow the school to maintain and enhance the caliber of the academic program by supporting the general operating budget, faculty and staff salaries and benefits, library books, healthy lunches, athletic equipment, art supplies and all aspects of life at Brearley.

Together, we are stewards for today’s and tomorrow’s Brearley girls.

United Fund Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Antibias/Antiracism Initiatives

By creating programming that engages our community to make equitable and conscious choices, we pursue meaningful change through deliberate and measurable actions so everyone feels welcomed, respected, supported and valued to fully participate. The United Fund powers Brearley’s commitment to create an antibiased and antiracist institution.

We are dedicated to creating an inclusive school where all Brearley students feel a sense of belonging.

Opening Doors Fund Scholarships

In keeping with Brearley’s mission to educate girls of diverse and adventurous intellect, your gifts make possible a Brearley education for families of low, middle and upper-middle incomes.

As part of the opportunity created by the Opening Doors Fund, our Free Tuition Program for families earning less than $100K a year and without significant assets covers all expenses associated with a full Brearley educational experience including tuition, extracurricular activities, technology and more.

Your generous support allows Brearley to enroll an economically diverse student body, Classes K–XII.

Adventurous Intellect Fund Faculty Support

Providing for the dedicated architects of the school’s educational program, your gifts benefit curricular development, departmental review, professional growth and faculty salaries.

To advance the curriculum and enhance culturally competent pedagogy, we are furthering learning opportunities for our faculty by providing them with the resources and skills needed to grow as scholars, artists and educators.

The school’s dedicated faculty cultivates the passionate exchange of ideas that is a hallmark of a Brearley classroom.

Endowment and Planned Giving

Generations of alumnae, parents and friends have strengthened Brearley’s legacy with endowment gifts. Endowed funds are invested for the long term and provide income that supports core needs as well as specific educational programs. Gifts through bequests, trusts or retirement plans are often directed to the endowment. The Samuel Brearley Society recognizes people who have included Brearley in their estate plans. To learn more about how to make a planned gift or bequest to Brearley, or to inform us of a legacy in your own estate, please contact Development at development@brearley.org or (212) 570-8625.
