An applicant must turn five years old by September 1 of the year she enters Kindergarten. There are no exceptions. Our Kindergarten classes are comprised of children who range in age from five years old to those who turn six in the late summer.
No. In a typical year, we receive applications from over one hundred early childhood programs from many locations throughout the Greater New York area. Applicants from last year's pool represented over 125 preschool programs.
Yes. The Clubhouse is an after-school enrichment program organized by the Brearley and Chapin Schools for Kindergarten through Grade 4 that runs Monday through Thursday. There is also an Extended Day program from the end of Clubhouse until 5:45 pm. On Fridays, there is an optional after-school program that runs until 5:45 pm.
Sibling and legacy parents are encouraged to contact the Office of Admission in the spring or in early September of the year before potential matriculation. Spring tours and parent interviews are available for these families. In addition, a sibling or legacy family may opt for the Early Notification Plan, which requires submission of the application by October 1, 2021, and completion of the entire application file by December 3, 2021. The Early Notification Financial Assistance application deadline is also November 15, 2021. A legacy candidate is a child whose mother attended The Brearley School and a sibling candidiate's sister must be a currently enrolled student.
