A love of ideas and reading is at the very heart of a Brearley education. The Library promotes this tradition by encouraging each girl’s discovery of the world of books, by providing tools and training for research and by serving as a vital hub for ongoing intellectual exploration.

A Welcoming Place

The Library comprises two facilities located side by side on the first floor, with a combined collection of more than 30,000 volumes. The Lower School Library is a friendly, comfortable place for storytelling time, classes with librarians and browsing for books to take home. The Middle and Upper School Library offers space for older students to pursue individual research and receive guidance in library skills. Even while expanding technologically, it has managed to retain its old-fashioned charm: around the corner from computer desks and private work carrels are window seats and nooks for curling up in a free period with a good book.

DIGITAL AND MULTIMEDIA TOOLS FOR RESEARCH

In addition to its wealth of books, the library features advanced information technology for research. Students have access to dozens of online and print subscriptions, musical recordings, audio books and an extensive film collection of over 2,500 titles.
