Brearley Math Assessment
  1. How do I register for the Math Assessment?
    1. There is no need to register separately for the Math Assessment, as it will be administered during your campus visit for your Tour and Interview.
  1. How long is the Math Assessment?
    1. The Math Assessment should take no longer than 20 minutes to complete.
  1. What can I bring to the Assessment?
    1. Brearley will provide you with all of the materials needed to take your assessment.
  1. Do I need to bring a calculator?
    1. Calculators, notes, and textbooks are prohibited throughout the duration of the Assessment.
  1. What if I have not yet learned a concept in math?
    1. Please provide an educated guess and indicate on your Assessment that you have not yet covered a particular concept in math.
  1. Am I required to write in complete sentences?
    1. On the Math Assessment, applicants may be asked to show or explain their work, but sentence structure and grammar will not be evaluated. 
  1. What happens if I do not complete every question on the Assessment?
    1. Please do not worry, as the Assessment is just one component of a student’s application to Brearley!

  1. How do I register for the English Assessment?
    1. Please select a date for the assessment under the English Assessment application step on Ravenna.
  1. How can I prepare for the assessment?
    1. Applicants can practice with the sample assessment
      1. Enter as Guest: type First & Last Names → Join
  1. How long is the English Assessment?
    1. The English Assessment should take between 40-60 minutes to complete.

  2. What is the format of Brearley’s English Assessment?
    1. Each Assessment includes a passage of text and age-appropriate multiple choice questions, short answer responses, and/or creative writing components.
  3. Should I bring a snack to the Assessment?
    1. There is no need to bring any snacks as light refreshments will be served before the assessment begins.

  4. Are beverages permitted during the Assessment time?
    1. Applicants may bring a drink to the test.

  5. What if I have questions throughout the Assessment?
    1. Proctors have been advised not to respond to questions related to the content of the Assessment but may assist with technical questions.

  6. Am I required to write in complete sentences?
    1. On the English Assessments, applicants are asked to respond in complete sentences. 

  7. What happens if I do not complete every question on the Assessment?
    1. Please do not worry, as the Assessment is just one component of a student’s application to Brearley!
