Literary agent Cherise Fisher was recently featured in a New York Times article "'A Conflicted Cultural Force': What It's like to Be Black in Publishing."  Cherise, an agent at Wendy Sherman Associates, notes in her interview, " After I graduated [from college], I started working for a publisher. My plan was to work for two to three years, then go to law school, become a lawyer and then a literary agent. I ended up having a career as a book editor for decades, which I loved, before becoming an agent.” She adds, “Working in publishing is very much an apprenticeship. You work for an editor, and they’re teaching you the ropes, and they have to be your biggest advocate. They have to promote you, support you and propel you forward.” More about Cherise Fisher and link to article

An active alum at Brearley, Cherise co-chairs the Miller Society, an association of Black and Latinx alumnx, whose purpose is to establish and renew bonds with each other, support current Black and Latinx students and their families and propel diversity, equity and inclusion at the School. The Miller Society is named for Brearley's first alum of color, Cecile Miller Eistrup '58.
