Our most pressing priority is to secure the philanthropic gifts required to build the schoolhouse at 590 East 83rd Street that will open in September 2019. We are making good progress on both fundraising and construction and invite you to view renderings and a time-lapse video at www.brearley.org/construction
. Future plans include significant renovations to the 610 schoolhouse.
Gifts to Facilities Projects are vital to Brearley’s success in meeting the School’s longstanding need for added and reimagined educational space. Campaign volunteers and members of the Development & Alumnae Relations team are ready to speak with you about how you might participate. Together, we can meaningfully expand our facilities to match the power and enhance the well-being of our students and teachers.
Gifts made through the Brearley Annual Fund support the day-to-day operations of the School, from teacher salaries and financial aid, to field trips and text books. The Annual Fund provides more than 10% of each year’s operating budget. Parent and alumnae volunteers contact their peers each year to ask for and encourage Annual Fund gifts. The Annual Fund closes on June 30, and Brearley is grateful to the 99% of parents and 43% of alumnae who give generously each year.
PARENTS’ ASSOCIATION BENEFIT
The Brearley Parents’ Association organizes an annual Benefit to celebrate our community and to raise funds for the School. Contributions in excess of event costs support a specific operational need. PA volunteers seek leadership underwriting gifts and sell tickets. Discounted tickets for current families receiving financial assistance enable all to attend if they would like.
CLASS XII GIFT
Each fall, Class XII students select a priority funding need and collaborate to give back to their school. Student co-chairs ask their peers to make their own gifts, and parent volunteers rally fellow Class XII parents to honor their children’s achievements with their philanthropic support, in lieu of an Annual Fund gift. We are grateful for strong participation from Class XII students and their families.
Generations of alumnae, parents and friends have strengthened Brearley’s legacy with endowment gifts. Endowed funds are invested for the long term and provide income that supports core needs as well as specific educational programs. Gifts through bequests, trusts or retirement plans are often directed to the endowment. The Samuel Brearley Society recognizes people who have included Brearley in their estate plans.
