Kristin Kagetsu ’08 awarded 2022 Waislitz Global Citizen Grand Prize

Kristin Kagetsu ’08 is the grand prize winner of this year’s Waislitz Global Citizen awards. The awards, which were announced in August, champion “inspiring people working within their communities to overcome challenges like air and water pollution, unstable infrastructure, and gender disparities in education, and drive forward the mission to end extreme poverty.” Kristin is the co-founder and the CEO of Saathi, a purpose-driven manufacturing company in India and an innovator in the use of alternative materials and zero-waste production. Saathi’s mission is to create hygiene products that are good for the body, environment and community—using sustainable, renewable materials, making them accessible to women no matter where they live, and collaborating to ensure products get upcycled—and to drive systemic change around how menstrual hygiene is addressed. The award winners each receive cash prizes totaling $200,000, along with networking support, to help them accelerate and scale their works’ impact.

Recently returning to New York to receive the honor, Kristin also attended the World Economic Forum’s Sustainable Development Impact Meeting yesterday, September 20, speaking on Scaling Innovation for People and Planet, and had the opportunity to meet Malala Yousafzai, the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize winner (see attached photo). On Saturday, September 24, Kristin will participate in the Global Citizen Festival in Central Park. Click here for more information about this event.

Congratulations, Kristin!
