New Faculty Q&A—Meet Ms. Bateman

Name: Katherine Bateman
Department/Job: History Teacher
Previous job(s): Teacher and Community Outreach Coordinator at the British International School of New York
Something that makes Brearley different from other places you've worked: The level of engagement and enthusiasm for learning is infectious and makes every class an adventure. It is exciting to see students leading so many school activities and clubs and to be in an environment where girls and young women are being taught to take up space and make themselves heard!
Favorite food (sweet, savory, etc.): pasta all day, every day and most fruits, vegetables and donuts
Coffee or tea (or neither): Coffee before most things. Tea when I am trying to have less coffee.
Favorite music/band: While I love music, I spend more time listening to political and historical podcasts and audiobooks.
Favorite thing about working in New York: Being inspired by the creative drive and passion that permeates the city. Also, commuting by ferry.
Hobbies: running, sewing, indoor rock climbing, cycling, baking
Fun fact(s) about you: My favorite summer job was being a sea kayak guide outside of Halifax, Nova Scotia.
