The deadline to submit an application is 5:00 p.m. on November 20, 2019. It is recommended that applications be submitted as early as possible. A non-refundable application fee of $85 is due upon submission. This fee is waived for families requesting financial assistance.
An individual tour for applicants and their parents is given by an Upper School student. This is followed by an interview with a member of the Admission staff. After submitting an application, you will receive an email inviting you to make an appointment. Visits take place during the school day and last approximately one and a half hours. The deadline for scheduling a tour and interview is Tuesday, December 4, 2019.
Brearley is one of many New York City schools that requires a standardized test result. An applicant may take the ISEE or SSAT exam. Candidates must register for a test date no later than December so that we receive the results in time for the first round of decisions. You may register for the ISEE exam online at http://www.erblearn.org. Our ISEE code is 333475. Or, you may register for the SSAT at https://ssat.org/. Our SSAT code is 1799. Please remember to list Brearley as one of the schools to which you are applying so that the test results will be sent directly to us.
Brearley entrance examinations are required in addition to the standardized testing and take place at the School. The examination date for Class VI is Monday, November 25, 2019. Check-in is at 3:30 pm. The examination date for Classes VII and VIII is Monday, December 1, 2019. Check-in is at 3:40 pm. Only students who apply by November 20, 2019 are eligible for testing on these dates.
Transcript release and teacher reference forms must to be given to the applicant's current school and teachers. So that they reflect as much of the term’s work as possible, references and transcripts may not be submitted before December 1, 2019. The deadline for submitting them is January 8, 2020.
Families requesting financial assistance should check the appropriate box on the application.The request for aid must be made at the same time the application is submitted. An applicant's file must be complete by January 8, 2020, in order to be considered in the first round of decisions. The Office of Admission will notify families on February 4, 2020, for Classes V–VIII. Accepted students will be invited to spend a day at the School. All schools belonging to the Independent Schools Admissions Association of Greater New York (ISAAGNY) have agreed to a common parent reply date of February 25, 2020, for Classes V–VIII.
