Upper School is comprised of Classes IX-XII

Class IX

ADMISSION PROCEDURES FOR THE 2018–2019 ACADEMIC YEAR

  • 1. APPLICATION AND FEE

    The deadline for submitting an application was 5:00 p.m. on November 20, 2017. It is recommended that applications be submitted as early as possible. A non-refundable application fee of $75 is due upon submission. This fee is waived for families requesting financial assistance.
  • 2. TOUR and INTERVIEW

    An individual tour for applicants and their parents is given by an Upper School student. This is followed by an interview with a member of the Admission staff. After submitting an application, you will receive an email inviting you to make an appointment. Visits take place during the school day and last approximately one and a half hours. The deadline for scheduling a tour and interview is Monday, December 4, 2017.
  • 3. INDEPENDENT SCHOOL ENTRANCE EXAMINATION (ISEE)

    Brearley is one of many New York City schools that require the ISEE examination, administered by the Educational Records Bureau (ERB). Candidates must register for a test date no later than December, so that we receive the results in time for the first round of decisions. You may register for the exam online at http://www.erblearn.org. Please list Brearley as one of the schools to which you are applying so that the test results will be sent directly to us. Our school code is 333475.

    Brearley will be happy to accept the SSAT in lieu of the ISEE. Our SSAT code is 1799.
  • 4. BREARLEY ENTRANCE EXAM

    Brearley entrance examinations are required in addition to the standardized testing administered by the ERB. The examination date for class IX is Friday, December 1, 2017. Check-in is at 3:45 pm.  Only students who apply by November 20, 2017 are eligible for testing on this date
  • 5. OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPT AND TEACHER REFERENCES

    Transcript release and teacher reference forms must to be given to the applicant's current school and teachers. References and transcripts should reflect as much of the current term's work as possible. We prefer to receive them in December.
  • 6. FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE

    Families requesting financial assistance should check the appropriate box on the application. Please adhere strictly to all filing deadlines. Please Click here for further instructions on applying for financial assistance.
  • 7. ADMISSION DECISIONS

    An applicant's file must be complete by January 16, 2018, in order to be considered in the first round of decisions. The Office of Admission will notify families on February 15, 2018, for Class IX. Accepted students will be invited to spend a day at the School. All schools belonging to the Independent Schools Admissions Association of Greater New York (ISAAGNY) have agreed to a common parent reply date of March 15, 2018 for Class IX.

Class X

ADMISSION PROCEDURES TO THE WAIT LIST FOR THE 2018-2019 ACADEMIC YEAR

We do not currently have space for new students in Class X for the 2018-2019 academic year.  However, unanticipated openings are always a possibility.  Should a place become available, the School will give full consideration to a Wait List application.

    The deadline for submitting a Wait List application was 5:00 pm on November 20, 2017. It is recommended that applications be submitted as early as possible.  The Wait List application cannot be submitted online; please download and submit the form by mail.  A non-refundable application fee of $75 is due upon submission.  This fee is waived for families requesting financial assistance.
  • 2. TOUR, INTERVIEW AND BREARLEY ENTRANCE EXAMINATIONS
